The East Arkansas Community College Family Series presents The Mermaid
Theatre of Nova Scotia’s production of A Brown Bear, a Caterpillar, and a
Moon: Treasured Stories by Eric Carle on Saturday, March 3, 2012 at 3:00
p.m. in the EACC Fine Arts Center. This much-anticipated new production
brings together old favorites and new friends. The show features beautiful
music, stunning visual effects and innovative ‘black light’ puppetry. The
triple-bill presentation highlights three of Eric Carle's most beloved
tales: The Very Hungry Caterpillar, Brown Bear, Brown Bear What Do You See?,
and Papa Please Get The Moon For Me, completes an hour-long performance,
that both entertains and educates children of all ages.
The Mermaid Theatre of Nova Scotia ranks among North America’s most
respected theatres for the young, and plays an important ambassadorial role
for Nova Scotia and for Canada. The company regularly crosses the continent,
and has represented Canada in the United States, Japan, Mexico, Australia,
England, Northern Ireland, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Holland, Hong Kong,
Macau, Singapore, Vietnam, South Korea and Taiwan. Mermaid Theatre has
earned Export Excellence awards from both the Governments of Canada and of
Nova Scotia. Based in the Town of Windsor, Mermaid has performed for more
than 4.5 million spectators on four continents. The company was founded in
1972.
Eric Carle is acclaimed and beloved as the creator of brilliantly
illustrated and innovatively designed picture books for very young children.
His best-known work,
The Very
Hungry Caterpillar, has eaten its way into the hearts of literally
millions of children all over the world and has been translated into more
than 50 languages and sold over 33 million copies. Since the Caterpillar was
published in 1969, Eric Carle has illustrated more than seventy books, many
best sellers, most of which he also wrote, and more than 110 million copies
of his books have sold around the world. The themes of Eric Carle’s stories
are usually drawn from his extensive knowledge and love of nature—an
interest shared by most small children. Besides being beautiful and
entertaining, his books always offer the child the opportunity to learn
something about the world around them. It is his concern for children, for
their feelings and their inquisitiveness, for their creativity and their
intellectual growth that, in addition to his beautiful artwork, makes the
reading of his books such a stimulating and lasting experience.
