Literacy Tutors Needed


The Literacy Council of St. Francis County is looking for volunteer literacy tutors to teach adults to read, write, and speak English.  No foreign language skills are needed, and training is provided.  Volunteers are also needed to serve on the Council's board of directors.  For more information, call 633-4480, extension 250 or 256.

Sponsor a Christmas Tree

Deadline December 5th

Any residents or businesses can sponsor and decorate a tree at the Mississippi River State Park for Christmas. They will be selling sponsorships through December 5th:  $70 plus tax for seven- or eight-foot trees, and the special "Charlie Brown" trees for $35 plus tax (three- or four-foot trees). YAC Grants

The YAC Grant Cycle has started, and it will continue until December 18th. This grant is only available for non-profit organizations that work with youth. The More than Conquerors Deliverance Ministries in Forrest City will be hosting a Thanksgiving dinner. It will be at 426 S. Division St. on Thursday, November 26th, from 11-2 p.m.

The Anderson Family and Solid Rock Outreach Ministries will be hosting a Thanksgiving dinner on Thursday, November 26, from 11-2 p.m. at 318 Hill Street in Forrest City. This is for the homeless and those in need.

County Thanksgiving Dinner


The St. Francis Food Pantry's Thanksgiving tradition will be providing a holiday meal to those in need from 10-11 a.m. It will be at the Food Pantry location on South Water Street in Forrest City.

Rotary Club/Mustang Fundraiser


The Rotary Club of FC is partnering with the Mustang Booster Club on a fundraiser for the two organizations.  Five prizes will be given away on the Saturday night of the Rumble on the Ridge.  Those prizes include $500 cash, a $500 gift card for Bass Pro Shop, an iPhone, an iPad, and a K2 Cooler.  Tickets are $5, or increase your chances by getting five tickets for $20.  Buy your tickets from any Rotary Club member or from Booster Club officials.

Forrest City Christmas Parade Entry Rules

Deadline is December 1st

The 2015 Forrest City Christmas Parade is scheduled for Friday, December 4th, at 7 p.m., and they're taking entries until Tuesday, Dec. 1st. The theme for this year is "Christmas on Crowley's Ridge." This year motorcycles, burn outs or hot rods, and horses will not be allowed in the parade.  Any vehicle in the parade must be pulling a float or be classified as a classic (25 years or older). Decorated cars do not count as a float. All entry forms must be turned in by Tuesday, December 1st. For more information you can call 633-1651.

Chili Supper


The Rotary Club in Brinkley will be sponsoring a chili supper from 6:30-8:30 p.m. on Thursday, December 3rd. It will be in the back room of Gene's Restaurant. Tickets will be $6 and can be purchased from any Rotary Club member.

City League Basketball Registration

Deadline is December 5th

Registration for City League Basketball for Forrest City's youth ages 5-17 will be every Tuesday and Thursday until Saturday, December 5th. You can register your child at the Larry S. Christmas in Colt

12/5, 12/10, 12/11, & 12/12

The Annual Christmas Celebrations at the William Stone House in Colt will be on Saturday, December 5th, and then on December 10th-12th. Each Saturday the event will be from 10 a.m.- 3 p.m., and on the Thursday and Friday it will be from 2-5 p.m. There will be lots of crafts, food and Santa will even be there on the 12th for a special pre-Christmas photo (please bring your own camera). Freedom Fund Banquet


The Lee County NAACP will host a Freedom Fund Banquet on Saturday, December 5th, starting at 6 p.m. at Lee High School. The guest speaker will be former district prosecuting attorney and Circuit Court Judge Olly Neal.

Holiday Concert at EACC

The Forrest City Downtown Revitalization project will be hosting Christmas in Downtown Caroling & Carriage Rides. This event will be on Sunday, December 13th, from 5-7:30 p.m. at the SFC Museum and Corner Pocket Park.

FC After-School Program

The Save-the-Children/21st CCLC after-school program continues every weekday (Monday-Friday) through May 6, 2016, from 3:40 to 5:40.  This program is for second- through fifth-grade students.  It offers support in literacy and math, physical activity and healthy nutrition, and fun enrichment activities.  Transportation is provided within FC city limits.  For more info, call 633-7129 or 633-3248.

ABE/GED Classes at C.R.T.I.

Registration through December 2015

Crowley’s Ridge Technical Institute ABE/GED classes in Forrest City are underway.   There is no charge for the classes.  Weekday classes meet Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.  Night classes are held on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.    The instructors are Betty Keysacker and Tambrey Carnes.  GED satellite classes are also held in Marianna, Wynne, Brinkley, and Clarendon.  Students must provide an Arkansas Photo ID and Social Security card to register.    For more information, go to CRTI's website, or call 870-633-5411 or 800-842-2317.

Polar Plunge


The Polar Plunge for both the Forrest City and Wynne areas will be Saturday, January 23rd. Registration begins at 11 a.m. at Lake Dunn in Village Creek State Park, and awards will be given at noon.
