City-Wide Clean-Up Project
The city of Forrest City has designated the month of May
for a major city-wide clean-up project. Mayor Larry Bryant is asking
for the public’s help in the clean-up effort. The clean-up schedule is:
--Ward 3 (week of May 2)
--Ward 2 (week of May 9)
--Ward 4 (week of May 16)
--Ward 1 (week of May 23).
National Day of Prayer
There will be a National Day of Prayer on Thursday, May 5, at the St. Francis County Courthouse lawn. This event will start at 11 a.m. For more information you can call Judge Gary Hughes at 261-1700.
Tourism Day Celebrations
The Welcome Center in Helena-West Helena will be celebrating Tourism Day on Thursday, May 5, from 10-2 p.m. The theme of the celebration is Southern Heritage and a lunch will be served. For more information you can call 338-7602.
Mother's Day Dance
There will be a pre-Mother's Day Dance on Friday, May 6, at 9 p.m., at the Marian Anderson Gym. This event is sponsored by the Marian Anderson High School Commission, with tickets on sale for $2 per ticket or $5 for three.
Lincoln Middle Academy will host an orientation event for area students entering the sixth grade for the 2016-17 school year on Friday, May 6, at 9 a.m. The event will be held in the Lincoln cafeteria and is designed to help fifth-grade students with the transition to the sixth grade. Cinnamon Roll Sale
The St. Francis County School Nutrition Association is holding a cinnamon roll sale. They must be pre-ordered, and the pick-up date is Saturday, May 7, from 12-2:30 p.m., at the Forrest City High School cafeteria. Deadline for orders is Friday, May 6. FC After-School Program
through May 6, 2016
The Save-the-Children/21st CCLC after-school program continues every weekday (Monday-Friday) through May 6, 2016, from 3:40 to 5:40. This program is for second- through fifth-grade students. It offers support in literacy and math, physical activity and healthy nutrition, and fun enrichment activities. Transportation is provided within FC city limits. Good Hope Fundraiser
The Good Hope Baptist Church will be holding a fundraiser on Friday, May 6, from 7-4 p.m. and Saturday, May 7, from 7-12 p.m., located at the Family Life Center across from the church on Barrow Hill Road. For more information you can call 633-6608.
The East Arkansas Regional Democrat Rally will be hosting a meet and greet with your local representatives on Saturday, May 7, from 11-1 p.m. at the Forrest City Civic Center. Village Creek State Park has rescheduled their first-ever Sunset Cinema event to Saturday, May 7, at 8 p.m. They will be presenting Open Season: Scared Silly in the field by the tennis courts. Concealed Handgun Course
A Concealed Handgun Course will be held Saturday, May 7, starting at 9 a.m. at the Forrest City Police Department. The cost is $75 for the full course and $50 for renewal. Month of May
The Mississippi River State Park will be offering several
kayaking tours this month. The dates are as follows:
--May 7, Kayaking Tour of Hornor Neck Lake at 10 a.m.
--May 15, Kayaking Tour of Bear Creek Lake at 10 a.m.
--May 28, Kayaking Test Drive 10-12 p.m. (for beginners who aren't quite sure about it)

Lunch-N-Learn (Sleep Disorders)
A Lunch-n-Learn program on Sleep Disorders will be held on Monday, May 9, at 12:00 noon in the In-Service Classroom at Forrest City Medical Center. The program will answer questions you may have concerning sleep disorders, sleep studies and whether or not you would benefit from an evaluation. There is no charge to attend, and a light lunch will be served to all registered attendees. C.R.T.I. Summer Registration
Registration for Summer Term 2016 at Crowley’s Ridge Technical Institute in Forrest City will be Monday through Wednesday, May 9-11, with Student Orientation set for Monday and Tuesday, May 9 and 10. The semester will begin on Wednesday, May 11 with the last day to withdraw without penalty being May 27. Financial aid and free regional transportation are available. There will be a blood drive at the Phillips Community College in Helena/ W. Helena on Tuesday, May 10, from 1-5 p.m. It will be located in the Fine Arts Building on campus.
Monroe Co. Commodities
Mid-Delta Community Services will be distributing commodities for Monroe County on Wednesday, May 11, from 1-4 p.m. They will be given out at the Community Center, at 553 North 7th Street in Clarendon. Lee Co. American Legion BBQ
The American Legion in Marianna will be hosting its annual BBQ on Thursday, May 12, at 5 p.m., at the American Legion. Tickets for a plate are $7. You can either dine in or carry out.
The St. Francis County 4-H Leadership Club will be hosting a fundraiser on Friday, May 13, from 3-6 p.m., at the old Advanced Auto Parts parking lot. They will be selling different types of meat. To make a donation you will need to put any nonperishable food items in or by your mail box so that the mail carriers can pick it up, or you can bring it to the post office yourself. Village Creek State Park has rescheduled their Kids Fishing Derby to Saturday, May 21, from 8:30-10:30 a.m., located at the pond on Hwy 1 East of The Ridges at the park. Brinkley Blood Drive

5K & Kids Fun Run
The UAMS East and Helena Health Foundation will be sponsering a 5K Run/Walk and Kids Fun Run on Satuday, June 4, located at the Wellness Center in Helena, AR. The 5K will begin at 9 a.m. while the Kids Fun Run will start at 10 a.m. The cost to register for the 5K is $20 if registered before Tuesday, May 24 and $25 after. ACT Prep Course
June 6 - 9, 2016
East Arkansas Community College is offering an ACT Prep Course Monday through Thursday, June 6 - 9. The ACT test date is June 11 (registration deadline for the test is May 6). Certified instructors from Sylvan Learning will teach a plan to help students prepare for the standardized exam, with comprehensive content review for each of the four required tests--English, math, reading, and science. 6th Annual EACC Golf Tournament
East Arkansas Community College will be hosting the 6th Annual EACC Golf Tournament at the Forrest City Country Club on Monday, June 13. The tournament will be a four person scramble and put into different flights, with cash prizes for the top three places in each flight. A lunch will be served to all participants at 11:30 a.m. with a shotgun start at 1 p.m. Single entries cost $100 or a team for $400.
